Environmental Partnership was the principle consultant for Pyrmont Point Park public domain including adjoining streetscapes.
Pyrmont, to the west of Sydney’s CBD, was historically a working suburb with industry and activities serving the waterfront docks interspersed with a community of working class terrace housing. Today it is the site of an ambitious urban renewal and redevelopment project. A key component of the urban renewal program was the redevelopment of the waterfront public domain which was renamed Pyrmont Point Park.
Public Domain Design
The project incorporates two open space areas: the larger Foreshore Park adjoining the Parramatta River and Belvedere Park overlooking Foreshore Park at the end of an elevated sandstone peninsular.
As principal consultant Environmental Partnership was responsible for the masterplanning, detailed design, documentation and construction supervision for the project. Key design elements included a Foreshore promenade and related observation deck along with a generous village green oriented towards the waters edge. Boulevard and streetscape treatments were also developed by Environmental Partnership for the adjoining Pirrama Road Corridor. The design detailing of the park reflects its historic and urban setting incorporating robust materials such as sandstone walling and paving, industrial timber construction and maritime style handrail treatments.
The park has received a number of awards including The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (NSW Group) Merit Award for Urban Design and the Urban Development Institute of Australia Award for excellence for Urban Renewal.
